Nikon D300 CF Question

I have been using a Nikon D7100 with SD cards. I transfer pictures to my computer by taking out the card and inserting it directly into my laptop. I just got a used D300 that takes CF cards. How do I get the pictures onto my computer without using a wire thru the USB port from the camera? Is there a CF to SD adapter? What is a card reader? Specs say the camera uses CF1 and CF2 cards. Can I use newer models like CF4. I have no idea or knowledge of this CF thing. Please help and thanks. Bob

Promaster and other companies make a card reader that accepts four different sized cards, including those used in a D300. They're not very pricey and certainly worth having. BTW, I have a "like new" manual for a D300S that I have no use for. If you want it, PM your address to me and I'll mail it to you. NO COST. There's so little difference between the D300 and the D300S that that is not an issue at all.

Some computers have CF card readers, my Dell model XPS 8900 does. Your D300 went out of production in 2009. A CFast 2.0 card will not work in the D300 CF slot, nor for that matter, in any camera model that isn't specifically designed for a CFast card. I'm unclear on your reference to CF4.

Depending on your equipment, you may find the USB approach is fast enough and doesn't require purchase of more equipment such as a card reader.

I'm starting to see the picture and thanks for your help. One more question. How many MB's of speed do I need to purchase on a CF card to get maximum speed out of the D300? Thanks Again

This may seem like a silly question, did you check your computer for a CF card slot? My H P desktop has one.
The cards I currently use in my D300 are SanDisk Extreme 120 MB/s UDMA7. They are available from Amazon.

The User's Manual is available for free download at Nikon USA.

If you prefer paper, you were already given a very nice offer!

The D300 manual is available in a PDF / electronic copy directly from the Nikon website. Page 371 of the English version even lists "approved" memory cards based on available cards when the manual was written. The list indicates the card type, vendor and size tested. You'll be challenged to find 8GB cards now in Dec 2017. But, I'd hesitate to invest heavily in cards larger than 16GB until I tested 16GB and then 32GB in the camera.

Hi my E system computer has the CF slot but my 2 lap tops do not I use a card reader for the lap tops you can find one on ebay mine take only the CF cards and plug into a USB slot I plug my cards directly into my computers and don't download fro the camera to the computer directly just the way I do it, PS I take one of the laptops when I go fly so I can do my post edition then instead of waiting till I get home this also becomes my back up too.
