Removing halos (Panoramas or other) - An easy way out.

Halos are a common occurrence that can have a multitude or sources (over sharpening, masking, HDR...)
The simplest way to remove them:
- Create a new layer
- Select the Healing Brush tool
- Set mode to darken
- Select sample all layers
- Adjust brush size
- Select a source near the correction
Tip:
- In areas that includes many details like inside trees edges use a broad brush and paint inside the trees.
- In tricky areas create a selection using the polygon mask tool (recommended) or the pen tool (more complex). Select your source inside or outside the selected area. Once done, remove the selection (Ctrl-D)
- When using the brush use a motion outside in. This will be slower but also more precise than drawing parallel brush strokes.
Why use a layer?
So that it can be turned on and off to check the changes made. It also permits for quick correction using the eraser. Undo goes only so far.

While researching this a long time ago I noted that many folks say that one cannot remove halos from masks. This is far from the true, you just have to be inventive.
Select the mask you need to edit. (Alt-click)
Select the mask content (Ctrl-A)
Copy the mask (Ctrl-C)
Exit the mask edit mode
Create new layer by pasting what you have just copied (Ctrl-V)
Now, using the method above you can adjust the mask anyway you wish - Including halos -.
Once done..
Merge the two layers (as per above tutorial)
Select the merged layer content (Ctrl-A)
Copy the layer content (Ctrl-C)
Enter the mask edit mode (Ctrl-click)
Paste the layer content (Ctrl-V)
Exit the mask edit mode
Delete the merged layer created earlier.
Seems convoluted but it works.

Copy the mask (Ctrl-C)
Exit the mask edit mode

I will definitely try this. Removing halos has been a pet peeve of mine, because it has been very time-consuming. Use the "clone" tool for a lot of it. This sounds like it might be faster, easier!
