I take a lot of panoramas. Glad to see this new section. Here's my first post taken at the Getty Villa Museum. Rather than taking multiple images and stitching, I just used the pano mode on my iPhone. My iPhone is the camera that's always with me.

As with the first panorama posted taken with an iPhone this is of surprising good quality.

This is also a very difficult subject for panorama. Long straight lines usually create artifacts that can be distracting. Here I found two but I had to look for them.

Well done.

Thanks for reviewing my photo.

Yes, long straight lines at short distances are a challenge. I have found that rotating just the camera and not your body+camera produces the best results. Effectively, this comes closest to rotating the lens on the lens optical center or nodal point. I see so many people begin shooting with their camera way out in front of them and rotate their body while taking multiple shots. The camera goes thru a large arc while shooting. You can get good results if the subject is a long way away. But if your subject is close, then this creates a lot of distortion, similar to barrel distortion. I assume that is what you are referring to. Whether using my iphone or my Sony, I try to rotate only the camera and not my body when I'm shooting without a tripod. To get the best results requires a tripod and a pano head. However, I don't have a pano head so I have to do it as best I can manually.

I'm very interested in seeing and learning how others get their excellent results. I believe this will be a very instructive section to participate in.

Excellent photo! Why carry a big clunker DSLR when you can shoot like that with a pocketable device that is also a phone!

Hi ElNikkor,

Thanks for viewing and glad you enjoyed the image. Personally, I need my cellphone to scratch my photography itch but I'm nowhere near ready to give up my heavy glass. They both have their places and there's a lot more overlap today where either is good enough. But I am learning more of the strengths of the camera I always have with me.

Hope you're having as much fun with photography as I am.

Mike
