Very disapointed with the new Pixelmator Pro editing software.

I purchased it this morning from the Apple store for $64 (I had the original version of Pixelmator and used it infrequently) based on the marketing information they were touting "Adobe CC Killer Application". This is a full release software not a beta package and in my opinion on a scale of 1 to 10 it is a 4, it was not tested out and I have a 27" iMac Reina 5 32gb memory 3tb SSD.

Issues with software:
1. No support for Nikon D850 NEF files.
2. Will import PSD files, but will not alter them.
3. Hangs when doing to many tasks and requires a force quite.
4. Their on-line manual is written with the same effort or less than their software.
5. Is not as intuitive as the marketing information led you to believe.

I have Adobe CC, Luminar 2018, Topaz Suite, DXO Elite, Elements 15, OnOne 2018 and a few others and have never experienced the problems with them that I have had with Pixelmator Pro, hopefully they iron out the bugs soon or I want my money back.

Other than the notion that a $10/month subscription is offensive to a few, why is anybody trying to kill Adobe? There is a new improved mobile app. There is improved performance. Adobe gives you a website. There is new masking options in Lightroom. Photoshop is adding AI driven selection.

There are reasons that Adobe subscribers are growing in number!

Bruce, You are an intelligent UHH member. You have all these fine products from major software developers in your arsenal. Why add to them by purchasing something else? What don’t they do that you find yourself frequently needing?

I was considering asking Bruce the same question. Also, how can one learn to use it all?

To add to everyone's comment, I am not dissatisfied with Adobe CC, in fact I use Bridge to bring in my photos from the camera, then Camera Raw for refinement, after which if I want more work done I use Photoshop CC. Most of the other editing programs I use as plug-in to Photoshop CC for special purpose that each offers. I have Nick, Topaz, OnOne 2018, Luminar, DXO, Portrait Pro and a few others as plug-ins and each offers a specific tool or look that is harder to achieve (but not impossible) in Photoshop CC. As stated I also had Pixlemator (original version not the latest Pro) which I used infrequently (2% of the time for basically throw away photos), so when I saw their marketing advertisement I was intrigued and for $59 + Apple fee I thought I would bring this piece of software up to modern standards instead of abandoning it completely. I was and am disappointed that this manufacturer could put out such a shoddy product under such a high marketing campaign. If I was a software manager (which I have been in my work life) I would fire the whole team and bring in fresh blood. They never even released a beta version before the final version.

This post also acts as a warning to other that might consider Pixelmator Pro. I have reported the problems and we will see how they handle it, I believe I have time to get my money back.

I read on another site so while I take it with a grain of salt I thought I should mention it.

"The support is added by Apple through MacOS's own RAW updates. You might want to check the App Store and check if there is an update available"

I use Aperture and recently updated Pixelmator to Pixelmator 3 to get re-acquainted. Could someone review how I would pull in an image from Aperture, edit in Pixelmator, and return it to Aperture?

Export the version as a 16bit Tiff and then import it using Pix and save it. Then import the exited Tiff in Aperture.

Today there was two version upgrades for Pixelmator Pro (one in the morning and one in the afternoon), but I still found it buggy and confusing to use. They did reply to one of my mails stating that future releases would include more cameras including Nikon D850.

Thanks for the update. Too bad you still have to wait. Hopefully the issues will be smoothed out.
