This dam self destructed some time after this was taken.

This was taken during an unusually wet winter and the overflow is storm water runoff.

Yup, with the assistance, or non-assistance of the City of Tempe.

The dam, was constructed of large rubber bladders, stretched between several structural points, as seen in the photo. The manufacturers of the bladders, Bridgestone, warned that the rubber coated fabric exposed to almost constant sunlight was not a good idea. Needless to say, after the years, since 1997-1999, the rubber coated fabric dam decided to agree with Bridgestone. It ruptured at approximately 9:45 pm MST on July 20, 2010.

This rupture released about 1 billion gallons of water down stream. This caused only minor issues, as down stream is a riverbed anyway. Needless to say, the fish weren't thrilled about the situation, neither were the city officials. Believe it or not, the Tempe Town Lake is right up there with The Grand Canyon in terms of tourist attractions.

For some of us living nearby, it's been affectionately called the Tempe Town Scum Pond from time to time.

Thanks, jkm. I just might do that. I had to salvage this one from another site on which it was posted.

Here you go. Just had to find the files, as they were done just under 8 years ago, and run them through the software.

I've since changed my photo techniques so that the images are so letterbox style. Now that we have this section, I'll probably be doing a bit more of this sort of thing.

Nice to see both versions. Just my preference, but I prefer the B&W version.

Nice. I like this color version better than the b&w.
