Toning is Nik Silver Efex at reduced opacity on a layer over color. Feedback regarding subject, composition, pp -
all welcomed!

What a fantastic composition Linda! When I look at this I get the impression of an EKG with the up and down white lines resembling the up and down lines and the white against the dark color of the earth. So many leading lines, my eye wants to go here there and everywhere, with diagonal lines everywhere as well. The clouds in the sky compliment the snow on the far mountain. I really love this one.

Walt, it's great to see you! I'm absolutely delighted you enjoyed the photo. You touched on several elements that I had hoped would interest folks (EKG is such a cool comparison) and I'm very grateful for your comments.

I like the angle you chose for this photo. It allows us to go deep into the photo, and when we get there, we are treated to a view of those great mountains. Deceptively simply; but it really works.

Eventhough it makes my eyes go crazy in download, the composition is perfect and I really like the effect. Brilliant!

What I like most about this shot is your positioning, the rows of poles receding into the distance almost look like a sine wave on an oscilloscope.

This is nicely done, Linda. I think your toning is dead-on. I like the mountain in the background. What I'm waffling on is the angled pole at the very edge. My first thought was that I wished it weren't there. Then I decided it was a really nice "shocker" in what otherwise was perfectly straight lines. It certainly jostles one's mind! So I'd like to hear your thought process on its inclusion. Obviously you had the choice to make.

I really like this Linda. Composition, patterns, leading lines, colour and processing all spot-on. Did I leave anything out? If so, I like it! Well seen. Did you envisage the end result when taking it?

Sorry! The iPad wobbled!

Thank you, Kathy. Yes indeed, I was hoping the anomaly ("shocker" - or as one person suggested to me privately, punctuation) would provide a little jolt after being lulled by the patterns. I was reminded of a topic I posted in Gallery for discussion last year called "Breaking the rules of composition."

As with many compositions probably, a case can be made to step outside the expected. Symmetry and patterns make wonderfully engaging images, but including something not quite right (though this pole is, of course, part of what holds up the rest, lol) can stimulate the brain. I'm thinking I'll quit talking now as I'm not making as much sense as someone with a better grasp of language (my aging brain). Thank you for the question!

Thank you, Dave! (sorry for your unruly I-pad ) My favorite shooting conditions are when I suddenly see something and my right brain says, oh yes! I don't do as well when I have time for that "other" side to take over.

Now, this subject - hops growing apparatus - I have photographed in all kinds of weather, seasons and light. I have one from last year I particularly like that is looking straight down a row. And there are hundreds of acres of the crop grown around here; I'm not just working with one field

I noticed the multiple vanishing points and symmetry of the main part of this particular location right away and as I was framing, I decided the left-leaning foreground pole would add a bit of unexpected visual stimulation, and of course one rarely can go wrong with a volcano in the background

I had some feedback on another forum that helped me decide to tweak my original edit where the clouds were darker and kind of competing with the main idea of patterns and lines.

Your time and interest is much appreciated!

Linda I am sensing a theme here. Hops harvest time already. Seems you are drawn to this scene year after year. You did not disappoint us this year. The poles seem to go on forever with a mountain backdrop to support the scene. The sky is not overbearing and in this case that is a good thing. Nicely done.
