I had my monolight with shoot through umbrella on camera right and still needed some light so I pulled out my softboxes for back light. How would you position lights for pet photography and what would you do to improve the shots. I am very happy with finally lowering the ISO, increasing shutter speed and playing with what aperture will get me my desired overall depth of field.

Darling pictures of beautiful dogs! They make me feel like Christmas! They look like they were very patient subjects. I can't offer a single suggestion!

I visualize them being in an actual snow scene with undecorated Christmas trees as a background. I bet they get something under the Christmas tree for being such good subjects. Well done!

Thanks! I plan on taking them to play in the snow but that will be after Christmas. White Pass in Washington state allows dogs on their cross country trails and that has some very nice scenery.

Wish my animal pix were half as good! Also wish our dogs were as well behaved as yours...

Thank you much! They are pretty good about staying in their pose but it comes with treats afterwards...

We have St. Bernards. Normally hard to get them moving EXCEPT when I try taking their picture!

Ha! I'm spoiled...I just start setting up my background frame and the dogs and cat start hanging around the "set".

These are OK, but I just do not think white backgrounds are the best choice for dog/pet photos in most cases. While I would never make claim to being a "dog photographer," I have done a few. and dark background help the animal to really stand out.
