Kodak DCS 760 vs Nikon D1x

I was reading in the Nikonian about a Mission Commander from NASA, (Captain "Dex" Poindexter)who recently passed in a boating accident at the age of 51 years. This man took some amazing space pictures and at the dawn of the digital age. The two cameras listed in the title were used for some of his shots. That got me thinking once again about the importance of pixel count. I still use a D50 but it also got me thinking about purchasing and using one of the cameras he used. The prices are dirt cheap on both cameras now on Ebay. I think it would be fun for little cost. They are both "Pro" cameras. I know no ISO values etc.etc but I might just purchase one of the cameras listed.

look to KEH.com instead. you can order imediately, not get sniped at the last minute, they do their own repairs andd put a 6 month free warranty on what they sell. right now they have reduced their prices up to 10%. everything i have ever bought from them has come cleaned and inspected.

Clever idea. The D1x was the camera in its day, but 5.3MP! And they were bagging about that. As we all know, it takes more than MP to make a good picture, even in space.

I like buying on ebay. I like the excitement, but you can't go wrong with KEH.

When I buy used, I make sure I get a shutter count before I spend my money. I've bought half a dozen used Nikons, ranging from 373 shutter clicks to 1,835.

I see the Kodak is listed for $1,000 - $1,400 on ebay, while the Nikon is under $300+. The Kodak sold for $8,000 new, while the Nikon was a bargain at $1,500.

When I checked ebay a couple days ago I found a Kodak for $550.00. No matter the Nikon is a better camera and probably the one I will buy. KEH has no listing for the Kodak. They must be quite rare. Like you Jerry I have never had a problem with ebay. Think I will go with KEH for the Nikon. Probably the only pro camera I will ever buy.

Will do. Have to wait for my Soc. Sec. Check. Might be the last one I get after Obamacare goes into effect. (That was said in jest). If you follow my remarks on the Obamacare thread you would know it is jest.
