Day # 16 - Date : Monday, October 30, 2017
The Hairy are the second of the Woodpeckers that I am posting that are visitors to my feeding stations. They are the mid-size ones, bout halfway between a Downy and a Pileated. Like the other two I have two distinct families of this species come in regularly to feed. This type appeared to be a bit better producer this year than the Downy, although not as good as the pileated. This year they showed up with 2 fledglings, a male and a female. I think that each family had one offspring, but not real sure. Possibly one family had a pair. But since the 2 fledglings were never here being fed at the same time I tend to think it was one apiece. I use two suet feeding stations and on more that one occasion I had one family feeding on each one at the same time. Makes for one crowded back yard at times.

Beautiful photos. I wish I could have bird feeders where I live, but the apartment complex doesn't allow them. Besides, my apartment is rather high and I'm not sure if I would have very many birds up here anyways. I enjoy looking at all of the birds posted on UHH.
great pictures with 3rd being my favorite.
Nice exposure on these. They are friendly little birds and fun to watch.
You have to love woodpeckers, at least until they are hammering at your roof at 6am.

Yes, these guys are very friendly, especially if you keep the suet feeders full. Thanks for looking.

Thanks tinplater for looking and commenting. As long as I keep the feeders full they keep off my roof. Also helps to have a roof made out of metal.
