I do but it's so much simpler with a hard stop at infinity. The 24mm f1.4 does focus at infinity at the symbol but the hard stop isn't close to that. With the 35mm f1.4 infinity is reached just before the mark and hard stop, close, but no cigar. All my lenses for the Hasselblad focus at infinity at the symbol and hard stop.

In the heat of the moment not having a hard stop at infinity caused my eclipse shots to be off. Bummer!
I feel your pain, exactly what I'm talking about. A simple thing is more complicated, what the hell are the scales for if not accurate? In days of yore I could set lens for depth of field with f stop used and not have to double check, now I'm not so sure. For years I've been doing time exposures at night and never had a problem with focus just by turning the focus to the stop and go about my business.

Yes, it is quite easy with all Samyang lenses. There are instructions online. I've adjusted infinity focus on both a Samyang 24 and 85mm lens; not because the infinity mark was off but because neither would reach infinity focus out of the box!

Thanks I'll look for links.
I think I know what you mean: enlarging Live view and using a loupe.

Not just an AF deal... my prime Zeiss Milvus and Distagon lenses both were able to move past infinity to a less than sharp point. I always watch the focus indicator on my viewfinder, and then back it off just a tinch, if you were to focus and shoot using hyper focus settings, you'd find that the infinity mark you line up for your fstop, is well before the infinity physical stop... in fact, therein lies the clue as to what you may consider you are doing wrong.
If you focus at infinity, then your far side of DOF from focus point is being wasted on infinity, where you are loosing the total useable DOF in front of your focal point. This may very well be a sizeable area in real estate. You may focus on something before infinity, or refer to you hyperfocus marks till you get a feel for it. Note just how many football fields, or even miles, of useable DOF you realy have to work with using your particular lens and fstop. Then never feel the need to slap the lens around till you hit that wall past "infinity", you are already in focus for distance well before you hit it!
My particular F-stop for night photog. might be F2.8. Not much hyperfocal distance there.

Many times I'm make these images wide open and the idea is to have the stars in sharp focus. If not set on infinity, won't be in sharp focus, how can I be doing it wrong? I do expect lenses focused on infinity mark to have sharp focus on stars, and it would be nice if the lens hard stop was at infinity is what I'm getting at. Always worked in the past with manual focus lenses.
Nice! How long was this exposure?

Thanks, a bit over 8 hours. I was camped at Potato Bottom along the green River in Canyonlands NP on New Years Eve in 1989 and had a bit of a party for myself and got into some mescal in a big way. Woke up in the morning and relieved that my camera was shut down and besides me in the tent!
Try that with a digital camera and see what you get!
But the first pronunciation in the dictionary is the "preferred" one. and it's koopon. after all, it's from the french as in coupe (koop) or coup (koo). It's just that over the years the more ignorant of us mispronounced it and now it's "acceptable" because there's a lot of ignorance out there. LOL

If you check the Merrriam-Webster dictionary, both pronunciations are correct for both 'coupon' and 'often'. However, pronunciation for 'often' with the 't' is designated as non-standard.
I have noticed the infinity focus going beyond the mark. I'm happy to see the reason for it. I have a hard time manually focusing. I seem to not be able to judge the sharp focus point when viewing through the view finder, so I rely on auto focus. However, sometimes my auto focus is not accurate or the auto focus can't determine the right focus point because of the low light or poor contrast. Then I am forced to do manual focus.
If you check the Merrriam-Webster dictionary, both... (

My manual focus Samyang 12/2 is the same. Need to back off just tad from the infinity mark. It works.

"It tastes like bug spray!"
I think it IS bug spray, in its natural state.
