I am interested in doing some wildlife photography and need a suitable lens for this. I would like to be able to shoot at 250'-300'. It seems that my choices may be quite narrow. I need to keep the price <$1000. Any suggestions are welcome.

I use a Sony lea4 adapter, Not cheap about $350.00 new, This will allow me to use any Sony or Minolta A mount auto focus lens, I then have a Minolta 100-300mm APO lens and a Sigma 170-400mm in Sony mount. they can me found cheap on e-bay. a tripod is a must for me.

you didn't say what kind of wildlife but 300 feet your asking a lot.

Therein lies the rub with Sony (for me). The 55-210 mm lens was about the best you could do without using an adapter. I believe you can pick up a 70-300 mm third party lens from Sigma now but I don't know if that lens is oversized for the small a6000.

Look at the used ones, especially the Amazon one (30 day return)

With the a6000 I use a Metabones MD mount adaptor and a 300mm MD mount lens from my Minolta film kit. Another option would be to purchase an LE EA4 adaptor and use Sony A Mount lenses. With the right adaptors you can use a wide variety of lenses from different manufacturers. My usual Wildlife set up is my Sony A77ii and Tamron 100-400 f5.6. With the above adaptor I could use this lens on the a6000. Always use a tripod.

Thanks for all your answers; they have given me a really good starting point. I like the idea of using an adapter. I always carry both a monopod and tripod with me. Now I get to go shopping.
Thank you for all the good advice.
