Photography Enthusiast here hoping to pick up tips and tricks of the trade to enhance my photography. I have been reluctant to use my LR and Photoshop as I have been too used to Picasa (can't believe I just admitted that!)for the past 6 years which is on the brink of nonexistence. I am good at editing and composing, but suck at figuring out lighting problems, and dark scenes. I have sold quite a few pieces over the years as a hobbyist, but have basically gotten by on a wing and a prayer. I hope to actually learn how to use my settings to cut down on my editing time, but seem to not be able to grasp it even after a few beginner classes. I am not a dimwit, but damn, I cannot seem to retain what I learn in classes! Looking forward to seeing some beautiful imagery here for inspiration :) I am a Canon shooter, not that it should matter, but..... LOL

Hello and welcome to the forum post pictures ask questions and most of all have fun. I have found utube as a good source for a wealth of information for camera use and post processing.
The best advice i can give you is read the manual that came with you camera and and visit youtube and pratice and pratice don't get fustrated. There is many friendly and knowabgle members on this forum that are willing to help the mewbies and the best part is that they do it at no charge LOL. Good luck hope this helps keep in touch saying hello from Pittsburgh.
Thank you for your suggestions! I agree that You-Tube would probably work best as I get distracted easily and hate to RTFM! This way, I can wear earphones and pause when I get interrupted. I need to get out of my comfort zone and just don't wanna. lol

No need to feel embarrassed about using Picasa...it may not be as technically elaborate or sophisticated as others (admittedly, it can't process RAW), but it is way more intuitive than most or all others. If your JPEGs are composed and shot well, it yields good results. The 'more sophisticate' programs could take a cue from Picasa.
Welcome to the Hog, enjoy.
