I have it on my iPhone great app for planning photos. Takes some learning but good for sun placement and used for Milky Way photos. Been using it more than I thought I would. Worth the try

I use Photopils a lot. Very easy to use - much easier to use than The Photographers Ephemeris which I also have. It is great for planning MW shots and sunrise or sunset shots. It even has a VR mode that let's you frame a shot and then advance the timeline until you get the sun or moon or MW exactly where you want it in the frame. Then come back at the appointed time. Very accurate.

Don't know about the Android version. It was 'coming' for a long time

I use PhotoPills all the time along with The Photographer's Ephemeris to plan my day and night shoots I have both loaded on my Ipad and Android phone. Both are very useful and worth the price

I downloaded it a few months ago. Haven’t used it much yet ... but playing with it. It’s very comprehensive and quite easy to use. Well worth the small cost to download the app. Go for it.

OneShot1 Loc: Wichita, KS, USA

I love PhotoPills and have used it to get some great shots. It's handy with Golden Hour, Blue Hour, night sky, Milky Way, sunrise/sunset positions. I look at it while I have up Google Maps and can see where I will need to set up to get a shot (or if the shot is even possible). There is an Augmented Reality function that I used when scouting locations for the total eclipse. I could see where the sun would be in relation to windmills, old barns, etc. Hold the phone up and move it around to view sun/moon/milkyway positions at a given date/time. The interface is not very intuitive, but they have good Youtube tutorials, which I highly recommend. Great app!

Aww, now you went and done it. After all the hours I have spent planning by using maps, google Earth and other tools for each shot you tell me "there's an app for that". Sounds intriguing but what will I do with all the time I have spent in the past "manually" planning shots (tongue in cheek)?

I use it alol the time, for planning where the sun will be setting in relation to the land, also the augmented reality helps me line up for Milky Way shots. The hyperfocal tables are great to have right there, also I use the time lapse feature. It gives you sunrise and sunset information, moon phases. On and on, the DOF tables are also nice to have.

So I think it's worth 10 bucks. You need to spend some time learning it. Other wise it seems really confusing

I’ve had photopills for about a year now and it has a lot of useful tools. I’ve tried using the virtual reality portion a number of times but no matter which of the 2 processes for calibration I’ve tried I just can’t seem to get it calibrated properly. Probably user error.
