Just got back from there. This will not be a good year for color no matter when you go. The leaves are going straight from green to brown. There will be a little yellow but they were falling off also. The best color was found in Cherokee, but don't look for any red, it just isn't there this year.

Those kind of years happen...sounds like the ongoing late in the season heat is a part of it. It looked that way in the UP when I first arrived. It went on to develop into a good year after the heat stressed and brown leaves fell off. I wonder if this is possible for the Smokies area.

Call or visit the Sugarlands Visitor Center
near Gatlinburg. They can tell you when,
where to find various features, status of
leaf color, etc. You will have to hike to see
waterfalls except for Meigs Falls which can
be seen from Little River Road. A trip to the
visitor center will be well worth your time.
I have been to this Park several times and never
tire of going. Leaving tomorrow for there.

Thanks Ted for the suggestions. Hiking is good after sitting for awhile. I've been twice and don't think I will tire of it either.
