I am sitting here on a Sunday morning, trying to put off my daily workout for as long as possible. I was just going to make a snide reply to a post on the photo gallery section. I finished it and reread it to see if I had said what I wanted to say correctly. It was correctly worded, and even spelled correctly. But for reasons I do not understand I did not send it. So I am curious. Did you ever do this? Make a perfectly accurate and correct reply and not send it? If so, why not?

It's often called not needing to hurt someone's feelings for no good reason at all........

Yes, because the text reflects a mood instead of a well-thought-out opinion carefully worded.

If my response is going to be snide, I don't even type it. That's unkind. There's enough of that already here. If I do need to say something negative, I attempt to couch it in terms that I think will be acceptable to the original poster. I'm glad you decided to be kind.

I do this constantly, wasting a lot of time writing out a comment only to shut it down without sending it.

Quite often, actually. The usual reason is, after reading it, I feel it doesn't really add anything to the conversation... either I completely agree with the issue and am simply repeating or I have no opinion in opposition. Rarely do I censor myself... here or anywhere else.

The trouble with onscreen is that amusingly snide just sounds mean when read online.

It's also called not wanting to take a lot of heat over a comment that was only a personal opinion but offended others for some reason. Like the time I said something about lenses being called glasses or glass. Got beat up for that personal opinion that I thought nobody would give a flying fig about.

After writing, if I realize that the response contributes nothing, or that it is simply repetitious; I am inclined not to send not.
But, sometimes I do anyway--like this time.

I try to remember a line from Shakespeare..."He was a very wise man, he could hold his tongue in four different languages". Mother English, however, is my only tongue!

No need for snide. I can accept criticism when kindly offered. In fact, I welcome it. Snide remarks don't offer anything helpful, they only serve to show a petulant personality.
