If not the camera ... a sketch pad, or maybe an Etch-A-Sketch???

A camera can be set to take pictures while the photographer is gone. How does that work if the photographer is there and the camera is gone?

I logged in to my Ipad today. Realized it was an Etch-A-Sketch. I don't even own an Ipad. Also, I'm out of wine.

Exactly.

Exactly true! But why buy a $10,000 camera that you don't understand and most likely won't for years to come? Because by the time you understand it, technology will have changed and you'll want the next $10,000 Camera. I buy to meet my knowledge with some extra to learn, then I consider better!

Expensive cameras are actually simpler to understand than cheap ones.

This is true as long as you read the 700 page manual.

It's true no camera will make you a better photographer. But the right equipment will give a good photographer capabilities that will allow him to take better photos in specific conditions. If you want to shoot in low light, cameras with great high ISO performance and fast lenses will get you better photos. If you are shooting fast action, a camera with a high FPS and sophisticated focusing system will help. If you have contrasty lighting conditions a camera with a high dynamic range will help. A good eye for composition and a good understanding of exposure will get you a long way with basic equipment, but it may limit the types of photography you can do.
