This camera eats batteries for lunch, has anyone used the off brand batteries for the a6500?

Sony cameras have a reputation for eating batteries, but I guess it's relative. My Nikon DSLRs seem to go forever on one battery, but the A6000 - not so much. However, over the weekend, I shot hundreds of stills and lots of video, and each battery still had life at the end of the day. I got a generic dual charger and two batteries, and they seem to work as well as the original.

It is my understanding that the Sony Nex/a series does go through batteries like - - - . I recently purchased a used Nex 6 and added Wassabi batteries. I used them before and that brand was great these came in bad.

I look for most postings. I hope to use the 6 as a side walk, take every where camera. What glass are you using ?

I love the a6500 as a side camera and has quickly become the main one. It is lightweight and you can change exposure while looking through the viewfinder. I used it at a wedding yesterday as a backup to the main photographer. The shots were great, very clear and sharp where I wanted them to be. I was not doing the main photos, just the artistic, odd shots. I have the Sony 18-105 f.4 lens and the Sigma 60 2.8. Yesterday I used the Sigma. The one thing I noticed was that the camera seemed to get hot at the end. It was a hot, outside wedding so maybe that contributed, I don't know.

I use off-brands for the a6300 - my decision was primarily cost based. I purchase a two-pack (meaning I now have 3) with a charger. I haven't yet critically tested the off-brands against the Sony that came with the camera, but I always carry at least one spare (two if I know I'm going to be out for an extended period) and haven't yet run out of juice.

It may not apply to Sonys, but my Lumix works fine with third party batteries EXCEPT they don't work properly with the remaining-charge indicator in the camera. They will show full, then one bar down from full, but then they just quit when they're out of juice. (My Lumix eats batteries, too, so I always have at least one spare if I'm away from the house.) It's annoying but not critical for my purposes, and they ARE a lot cheaper.

Do you have Airplane mode Off or On? Try turning it On. I once did an experiment for battery length in camera Off condition with the a6000. I would imagine such an experiment on your a6500 would be similar.

According to WikiPedia the Li-ion battery self-discharge rate is 8% per month at 21 deg C and higher at higher temperatures.

Mirror-less cameras have an EVF instead of optical viewfinders. These run the batteries down faster. Also, the batteries are smaller as the cameras are smaller and lighter so do not have as much punch as their larger DSLR bretheren. Battery consumption is just the nature of the beast. My solution is to use 4 Wasabi batteries and charge them up before venturing forth with my camera. A relatively inexpensive solution considering the cost of the Sony batteries.

No problems with after market batteries with the a6000. Discharge rate very similar, although I never did a comparison test for exact rate(s).

I have 2 Wasabi batteries for my a6500 and they do not perform like the Sony's. Sony's last longer in the camera, will charge to 100%, takes longer to discharge while stored.
