I have been researching the information in the title and am getting conflicting information, even from Ken Rockwell. Does anyone know if the Nikon 85mm f1.8D, model 1931 is compatible with Nikon D7000?

Should work fine.
I have used several D type lenses on my D7000.

Should work fine with your camera as well as all other D lenses.

Are you sure that’s not an AF Nikkor 85mm f/1.8D? (http://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/product-archive/camera-lenses/af-nikkor-85mm-f%252f1.8d.html)
You can check your user’s manual under Compatible Lenses for any issues there may be.

Courtesy of KEH:

“Originally released in 1994 the Nikkor 85mm 1.8D (Nikon USA part # 1931) is a replacement for the Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 (non-D Type, Nikon USA part # 1930); both models have identical optics but this newer version has a "D" chip that conveys distance information to compatible cameras for more accurate TTL flash exposure metering.”

Absolutely! The D3xxx and D5xxx bodies do not have a built in focus motor, therefore they are not compatible with AF lenses and require AFS. Incidentally, the D after the aperture designation indicates that the lenses will communicate distance information to a compatible speedlight for better exposures when using a flash.

For future reference, Nikon is probably the best source for this type of information.

Yes I use two D lenses on my D7K. 24mm and 70 - 300mm. Have fun.
