Fellow Hoggers, I have a crucial question to ask of you. My widowed friend just found a missing lens today. It happens to be one that I would like to have. The Nikon 10-24mm NIKKOR AF-S DX F/3.5-4.5G ED. My dilemma is that I don't know what to pay her for the lens. In the past, many of you have told me to look at B & H, KEH, and Adorama. Others have told me to search Ebay for used, but sold, identical lenses. I can't find this lens on the the 3 previous websites, and I a have found a myriad of prices for the lens on Ebay. That doesn't help me at all. So, what do you think is a "fair" price for this mint condition lens? I value your opinions. Thanks for your advice.

When you search on eBay, click on the 'Advanced' search and use the filters to show only lenses that have sold. The price for a lens from a retail store is considerably higher than from a private party. You can also look at fredmiranda.com for the same.

A quick look at eBay for used items showed the following:

If you throw out the two high prices ($628 and $620) and the low ($366) and average the remaining prices, you end up with $496 as an average price. if you keep the high and low prices it goes up slightly to $500.

Lenses with the pouch, box, lens hood, papers, etc usually auction for more. You can also filter out the lenses that are in similar condition to the one you are looking at, to determine the cost a bit more accurately.

This link will show you what they have sold for on ebay. Should give you some info as to what would be a fair price.

If $500. is the fair average eBay price then you should pay $450. since EBay will charge 10% and PayPal will take 3% more.

All very good(wise) advice. And since you're a friend (trust-worthy, and all) She would be smart and kindly, to sell it to you for ABOUT $400. smackers. Just saying.

You might consider going ELSE-WHERE then. Many people think this forum is great the way it is(mostly) though, occasionally. Elitists??like you come on and mess up an otherwise "nice day!!! digit-up. feel free to "ignore me, we also have that option. So, your a Facebook dude, eh?? Say no more!! Really, SAY NO MORE!!

Oh no, cthahn, us hogs are really good at thinking and we think you are a real horse's a**! That's why you have made it into the record book of being placed on the "ignore list" the most times, which is what we would encourage Dziadzi to do immediately. You are no help.

Hi Frank, I'd love to have this lens, but it doesn't fit any of my cameras. This is a very good lens for cameras that are what we call "crop sensor" cameras. $450.00 is possibly upper middle of the road price.

Good luck with your dealings.

I offered my friend $500 for the Nikon 10-24mm lens. She refused to accept anything because of all the help I have been to her in liquidating her husband's camera equipment. A very nice, but unnecessary gratitude on her part. I am very appreciative.
