Lightroom raw problem

I recently downloaded LR vs 6.12 (standalone vs from vs 6.0). When I opened the program all my pics were gone - no catalogs. However, there were not that many and I still have all my original photos stored on two external and one internal hard drives. But my main concern is importing raw files from a recently purchased Canon GX 7 Mark II. The error message indicates file version not supported. So, went online to Adobe support expecting to find a current, vs 6.12, of Adobe Camera Raw to download. My camera is listed as supported, but could not find a download mechanism. It seems I was constantly routed in circles. My Photoshop Elements opened up the raw files normally. I had no problems importing raw with earlier versions of LR - Canon 6D and an elderly 20D.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Another thing : while I had LR open I tried to import a raw file pic taken with my 20D. It was at one time on LR. Message said image already imported and cannot be duplicated. Would that indicate the files are "somewhere" hidden in LR?

To download anything from Adobe, you need a user ID and password to log on to the d/l site.
Did you try reloading your 6.0 catalog? File/Open Catalog will bring up a dialogue box will allow you to search for your 6.0 catalog.

If you work through the import dialogue in LR, an image that has already been imported will not have a check mark, and will be gray.
If the image is checked, you can import it. The message saying it is already imported can be confusing.

First, import the picture and do not designate the folder - it will appear in "previous import". Then drag and drop into the appropriate folder. This is when the message probably will appear. What usually has happened is that the picture is now in your LR folder if you then go check it out. The other possibility is that there is another version of that image with the same or similar name/file number. To deal with that, go back to the image in your import folder ["previous import"] and change this in the metadata. Keep it simple - add what I call a "version number" to the existing name, such as attaching an "a" or "-1". Usually that will allow you to drag and drop into the folder.

A work around is Download Adobe Digital DNG converter. you can convert your raw files to dng files with out losing quality. Then light room will beable to read them
