Reading through the description for each listing, from every appearance the $20 batteries really are Nikon branded, but they are being sold by merchants in China. I bought one of these ProMaster batteries as a spare when I bought my D810. OEM EN-EL15 batteries were unavailable at my dealer, presumably because of the current recall. Paid $50, which is about $10 less than OEM batteries are going for here and about $22-23 less than Nikon's price on their website.
Now that I have been through a few charge/discharge cycles, I can report that despite being labelled with equivalent capacity to the Nikon battery, it appears that in actual use (at least as I am going through this familiarization period) it is delivering about 2/3 as many exposures per charge as the the Nikon battery. I do not yet have an answer for why this might be the case. I will continue to monitor my results and provide an update if performance changes.

Probably because the mfgr exaggerated the mAh rating.
