I was at a pristeenly maintained nursery. And right next to the main entrance, on the gravel sidewalk was this weed. I just had to take this picture

I would have taken this shot as well. I like great contrast. You have color and no color, I would suggest you consider you camera's meter is overwhelmed by the light stones and the strong light. In a situation like this you have to work to overcome the strong light beating the heck out of the color of the leaves. If you stand where your shadow covers the subject you an calm light and still give you a nice image with great contrast. As to this image, I would decrease the exposure in PP until the shadows on the lower leaves get to nearly black and see if you like it. Your eye expects shadows to be dark in strong light.

I am always amazed by the tenacity of life. It is always a struggle and a delicate balance but there are survivors.

Opportunity shots are every where. Having an eye that sees if being a photographer.

Composition: you centered the plant.. but failed to give us the story containing the two other elements of the story; the bigger rock lower left and the shadow. Three elements of the story, diagonal composition.

Weed has a more jagged edge to it usually boberic. Nice shot though.

I agree with the others. You did well to spot this shot. Harsh lighting was not your friend. Remedies discussed already.

I like both idea and composition. Would have been better if captured with less camera shake. Also, I think a polarizing filter could have worked wonders here.

The camera shake is an ongoing problem (hand tremor). Hopefully the monopod I just got will help with this. Next purchase will ba a CPL, probably Hoya. BTW this weed had smooth not jagged edges.
