I wanted to buy a drone to photograph...
...the gilded statue on top of the state capitol dome!
...the stadium during college football games!
...buildings on the state college campus!
...natural wonders in our national parks!
...wonderful views of our state parks!
...crowds of people at concerts!
...airplanes landing!
...the white house!

...so I bought a telephoto lens!

I was just going to say the same thing. First you must register the drone with the FAA for $30 hobby and $40 commercial.

Against regulations to fly above 400' and over people. Weddings out, stadiums and concerts out, and the areas you cite are restricted airspace. And if you plan to sell the photos it is a $10,000 fine to do so without obtaining a FAA license. The test costs $150 to take and the on line study course costs $100-200.

For the money I purchased the Phantom 4 Pro Plus with the new big censor and 60 frames per second 4K video. I shoot real estate, but I have a commercial license to do so. Be careful.

Au Contraire - - - On May 19, 2017, the court ruled that Americans no longer have to register non-commercial drones with the FAA. Read the ruling John a. Taylor, petitioner v. Michael p. Huerta, as Administrator, Federal Aviation administration, respondent.

So far, I have not found any changes to the ruling....

The registration was vacated but the flight restrictions were ordered by the court as still valid.

Enjoy it while you can. Five years ago I was at Ellis Island in NY's harbor and was using a telephoto to shoot Lower Manhattan skyline, Verazzano Narrows Bridge, Staten Island ferry, statue of Liberty, etc and was told by several NPS officers that what I was doing was not permitted. They had guns. So I put my camera away. They were obviously wrong, but I was not going to argue.

That's unfortunate you didn't get your shot. Thanks for the link. At least there are less restrictions for cameras than drones.
