Eneloop battery adapters

There have been numerous posts extolling the qualities of Eneloop batteries, but I have a question regarding their adapter that allows for using say AA batteries in devices that take "C" ones. Eneloop batteries have a 1.2 volt rating while my wireless outdoor speakers use 8 "C" cells per speaker. The "C" cells are 1.5 volts. What problem might I have in speaker performance with the 1.2 volt output? Or would they work at all?

Eneloops (1.2v) are used in devices where regular batteries (1.5v) are used. So using the adapter shouldn't be a problem. I have small LED flashlights designed to use 3.7v AA-size batteries, but they work just as well with 1.2v Eneloops.

I have C and D size rechargeable batteries, so I haven't had the need for an adapter - yet.

Shouldn't be a problem. The issue would be if the batteries were producing more voltage than the device required.

Thanks from both of you. That's all I need to know.

The only problem with using the adapters with AA Eneloop batteries is the run time. Regular C & D cell rechargeable batteries have a lot longer run time than AA's.

Some 'C' cells are 'AA' cells in a bigger case.

Well, with 8 batteries, your reaching a rather wide gap between the expected voltage (12v) and the actual voltage (9.6v) (THis is a rechargeable vs disposable thing; nothing to do with the adapters). THe low voltage may affect the volume of the speakers.

I have completely switched over to eneloop batteries and really like them HOWEVER they will not work in every device. I have 2 have devices, both GPS's from 2 different vendors that they will not work in. Just not enough voltage to power them. Any battery type that produces 1.5v works in these devices but they will not power on with 1.2v Ni-MH or Ni-Cd and I've tried rechargeables from several vendors.

I would just try them and see. What have you got to loose?

My only concern would be the Mah rating, AA's will work, but run time will be less.

Every battery powered device has an internal impedance, so with a lesser battery voltage the less will be the current flow. If that reduced current can not drive the circuits of the device, its operation can not occur.

Looks like I have to rethink using the Eneloop. Fortunately, I have not purchased the converters. I do have rechargeable "C" cells in the speakers.

Follow up - I just checked my speaker batteries and they are rated 1.2 volts. Have not had any problem with them for several years. I thought they might be NiCads, but they are same as the Eneloops. Thus, I should be able to use Eneloops with the adapters when the time arrives for replacement.

Thanks for all the posts.
