I've mentioned it before here, but electronic versions of these magazines exist via several services. I belong to Readly, $9.95/mo and I get all of the above magazines. I view them on my iPad. You can always access any issue anytime, basically anywhere. I think it is the way to go given you get access to so many magazines for such a modest monthly payment. Have fun!

the best magazines are british. All american mags are 90% advertising and the ads are linked to directly the page across from a connected article. Been reading the mags since the fifties... no more. Everything helpful is on the net along with a lost of junk there too.

I doubt if any mag ever made a professional photographer, or improved that many amateur and advanced amateurs.

In over 50 years of reading the magazines, some great issues, some poor issues, I've never failed to learn at least a little bit each time. In total, I learned a lot from this reading. I do miss some of the magazines, but I do realize what is happening and don't expect to see much available in printed for in the future. Our loss. Best of luck.

I have subscribed to Shutterbug since its beginning in the 70's. It started as a full broad-sheet canary yellow trading paper much like the old 'Trade-a-plane' for the used aircraft market, only, of course the content was exclusive photographic.. Bought some good camera and darkroom equipment via its pages. It has morphed into a top of the line color magazine and I still enjoy reading it for its reviews of photo equipment. It broadened its content to include photo contests, and subject matter that addresses technique and good articles on lighting and camera procedure.

It is a sad thing about Pop Photo. I had subscribed to it for many years also. The articles in it had good content on darkroom procedure back in the day when we used darkrooms. Also had good articles about some of the 'primitive' photo processes and how you could do them. Don't forget there was also a 'Modern Photography' magazine. They died some years back.

Pop Photo will be missed, but I suspect we will eventually see the demise of more and more printed publications. Two reasons I can see for this is that the world is enamored with electronic media and nobody reads much anymore.
I have subscribed to Shutterbug since its beginnin... (show quote)

I'd forgotten about Shutterbug's predecessor, Shutterbug Ads. Back in those pre-internet days, it was the best source on how to find photo stuff.

Hi. I have been looking at this Forum for about three weeks and joined about a week ago.
I am an older photo taker going back to my old Petri that I bought in the Philippines in 1965.
Went to digital with a Sony Alpha7and moved to Canon three years ago.
I am curious as to which photo mags the other members read. I had subscribed to Pop Photo but that is now discontinued.
Any suggestions??

There is an excellent, Canon-only mag, out of England, called EOS magazine:

www.eos-magazine.com

I subscribe to both the print and digital versions. Well worth the money, IMO.

Thanks to all that answered my question on the photo mags and appreciate the welcome messages.
Looking forward to learning more about this interesting hobby.
Thanks again.

By the way, someone mentioned PhotoPlus for Canon. There is a also a Nikon version, PhotoPlus for Nikon. Both come with a CD each month that contains a video of their main how-to articles that month etc.

FWIW

I was in B & N today looking at the various mags. Saw the Nikon one from England but didn't see the Canon issue.
Didn't see the "Digital Camera one either.
Have to do some more looking.
Thanks again for the suggestions.

Forget magazines and use YouTube, www.dpreview, www.dxomark.com, and other review sites. There are thousands of blogs and online courses out there. Many of them are better sources than ANY current photography magazine.

Magazines, for the most part, are relics from the 20th century.

Go to Photo Plus, "The Canon Magazine'. Produced in England and sold at Barnes and Noble. Not a cheap magazine ,but it has every thing you would want to know. $13 bucks at B&N. I love it and pick it up whenever I see an interesting article on the front page. Go for it.

I subscribe to this magazine. If you are a Canon shooter, it is by far the best magazine. I also subscribe to Outdoor Photography. I once subscribed to popular photography, but was never happy with it.
