There is a large park I like to go there. There are a good number of photographers use it as background for their various people photography. I like to take pictures of them (not their subjects) but they seem to be annoyed by that. Why is that?

Their fare game in a public place. As long as you don't use for profit without their permission.

I agree with Jim, but I still prefer to work behind the camera, not in front of mine or anyone else's.

Yes, I agree, I have researched this subject, be careful how you use your people or Private property images, selling them for you personal profit can be a legal nightmare for you, you must get signed permission to use their photos for your profit.

Of course I stay out of their way and don't interfere with the work but it seems only photographers don't like being photographed while they are working (I know they are getting paid). Painters and other craft people when they do it in public places don't mind being photographed at all. Of course I am not going to sell the photographs I don't even show them to others.

Yes to legally being able to photograph photographer's doing their thing in a public park. Now, comes the ethical question - at what distance are you shooting thm from? A good distance so as not to interfear with them doing their job. You mentioned 'various people photography' - meaning that the photographers are there with a client(s) or do you mean they are there just like you taking photos of various people enjoying being in the park. If it's the former, as long as you "Don' get in their face" or shoot their clients while they are shooting their clients then all should be good.

Honestly, I kind of wonder if they think you are "stealing" their shot. i.e. taking photos of their subject in the pose that they set up. It doesn't bother me in a place like a park, but I absolutely hate it when guests stay after the ceremony at a wedding and keep snapping my set ups.

They end up posting their one shot on Facebook getting credit for their amazing skill, before I get mine downloaded.

I might take a picture of you arranging a set up, but not of the set up itself - most likely it will be entirely too formal for my taste - and I don't have a FB account, I'm not that interested in giving away information about me.

Your research is faulty. In the United States, you may photograph people in public places, and sell that as art work. No permission or releases are required. A third party, however, has no right to the commercial use of that image without a model release of any identifiable person in the photo.

They often do funny things. I zero interest in their subjects (the people who paid them)

I wouldn't take a pictures of your subjects unless you are included in the shot.
