A little over four years ago I purchased my Nikon D7100 from Hunt's Camera in Manchester, NH. Since I retired, the South Portland, Maine location is now the most convenient for me. Last week my D7100 for some reason would no longer auto-focus. I brought it up to the So. Portland store and explained the issue. The person I dealt with (I believe the manager or assistant manager) looked it over, cleaned the mounting surfaces of both camera and lens, played with controls and settings for a few minutes, frowned several times, and told me I had two options. He could send the camera out for repair which would take 6 to 8 weeks and cost me "lots of money." Or he could swap it for a brand new d7100 body at no charge. I did some quick calculating and opted for the latter. I never dreamt that that could happen after four plus years of use. I thanked him for the great service and he said "Just tell your friends." So that's what I'm doing now.

And that is why we patronize our local Camera Shop rather than buy on line.

Hunt's Camera are more than just a camera store. They really put back into the photo community. Hunt's sponsors several guest speakers and events at my local camera club every year. They also run photo walks and classes on numerous different photo topics - over 30 events scheduled this month alone. I got a really great deal on an A7Rii at their Mothers Day event.

Very interesting and very educational. I know of several such companies in our locality that would still be in business had they followed that model.

I have been using Hunt's in Manchester NH for years. The staff is well versed in photography and extremely helpful with many camera issues and concerns. Their fast shipping is paramount to their success. I always shop Hunt's before any camera or photo equipment purchase.
I agree with Hunt's A-Plus status in the photo industry.

Amazing story. You may be interested to know that Hunt Photo started out in one Boston area town as Hunt Drug Store. They had one elevated shelf with some photo products on it. I bought a Halliburton case there in the 70s.

2 years ago, I had purchased a Canon Macro lens. The first one they grabbed out of the stockroom was dead right out of the box. The sales rep went back and grabbed a second lens, that appeared to function.

Right from the start, I experienced problems with that lens, and returned to the Melrose store several times over a 3 month period complaining that the lens was having focusing problems. But the first 3 times, it functioned correctly in the store.

Finally on the 4th trip, that lens failed to function while I was in the store. Because I had documented the problems with that lens with several trips and had dealt with my regular sales rep on each trip, they ended up giving me a full refund on that lens.

I can't say enough about the superb customer service that Hunt's provides to their customers! I've been a customer at their Melrose store for over 20 years.

I now drive about 30 miles in each direction from Salem, NH to the Melrose store, instead of driving about half the distance in the opposite direction to their Manchester, NH store. The great customer service that I receive at the Melrose store trumps saving on the sales tax and gasoline, which I'm sure is the case at all of their stores!

I've witnessed their very knowledgeable staff taking the time and patience to explain the differences between Choice A and Choice B to potential customers. Their Spring and Fall dealer events are always worth the trip, and I've taken in many of the informative lectures that they offer during those events!

Hunts is the best. From Jon to Al in their big store in Melrose. They treat you like family. So many of the staff are professional photographers. It's more like a university and incidently they sell cameras. Sometimes I pop in just to chat. I think it was years ago a drug store that sold camera equipment and then they morphed into 7? stores of photography only. In today's world of Amazon, Facebook, etc., Hunt's is an oasis for REAL human contact.

This is the happy result of buying from reputable camera dealers.
Try that with 42nd Street Camera.
