The Canon 70-200mm lens on a Canon 1DX or 1DX Mark 2 is the NFL photographer's most used lens. Great action lens. If you can afford it, get the most current f/2.8. And there are third party lenses in Tamron and Sigma, in Canon mounts, that are very good too.

I couldn't agree more! Had the Nikon version on my D700, D3 and D4 and was one of the sharpest lenses I owned. Fast focus and for portraits, my go to lens. At 105mm it was tack sharp for portraits. Alas, sold all my Nikon gear, went with Sony and just found the camera too small in my hands. So, decided, since I was getting another pro camera, to switch brands and picked up a Canon 1Dx that is in pristine condition with less than 14k clicks. I shoot a lot of sports, so going to give this camera a workout. Can't wait! Holding out for the Canon lens, as I just don't think that the other brands are as sharp.

I have just the lens you are asking for. Hadn't thought of selling it, but realized I just haven't used it much. I love the IQ but really need a lens with more reach. Make me an offer that will help me buy a Sigma or Tamron zoom that reaches 500 or 600mm and we may have a deal.

I have one. Absolutely perfect and like new. Only used it a couple times. I have switched to Sony mirrorless FF.
Also have Canon 1.4 extender, version I.

Scott, received the lens today! Great lens and just as you stated, not a mark on it. Looking forward to really trying it out this weekend. Got the camera today as well, so going through the settings. I will post feedback as well,
