I dropped my camera on a gravel driveway last summer. I sent it to a Nikon Repair Center in Wyandotte, MI that has it about 2 months. They took the lens apart and re set it. They did not know how to fix the body so they sent it to NIKON. The camera does not perform that way it used to. I had it insured and I wish they had told me that it could not be fixed and then I could have gotten a new one. What to do ????

collect on the insurance and buy a new rig. That is what I would do if I want a camera that is reliable and waiting again for repair.
You really don't make much sense. You say you sent it to Nikon and then you say they couldn't fix it so they sent it to Nikon. What? Then I'm assuming that they sent it back to you because you say it doesn't perform like it used to. But you don't say what's different about how it performs and you don't say if it looks like they performed some repairs or if it simply looks like they sent it back un-repaired.

I assumed you sent it to a Nikon repair center , from there it was sent to a nikon factory , what actually is thr problem with it?

I am guessing that the Insurance covers damage or loss due to shipping; but has nothing to do with a failure to have the repair done successfully; and won't pay out.
If my assumption is incorrect, the answer is appropriate.
I believe that Nikon authorized repair centers are obligated to provide an estimate and to get your approval before doing a repair.
Perhaps they did so; but ultimately were unable to fix the camera. One would hope they would refund your cost because they failed to accomplish what was requested.
You will need to read the "fine print" because you may incur an expense for them to do the necessary investigation. This does not seem unfair because there is labor involved.
All this said, Nikon should (but may not) want to keep a customer happy and make some sort of signifiant accommodation.
Buy a new camera...and a neck strap. Insurance does not cover negligence on your part...which dropping the camera is.
You could be better off not sending it out for repair at all but you've already done so. So take your lost and buy a new camera. The D7500 is really an upgrade from the D5300.
A lot might depend on the type of insurance you have on the camera. A lot of retailers sell policies on new cameras that do include dropping and other types of accidental issues.
No, I said I sent it to an authorized Nikon Repair Center
When you get a new camera, be sure to use the strap that comes with it. This will probably prevent it from hitting the ground again.

If it is still under the Nikon repair warranty, send it back again. If not, you may be out of luck.
I am totally afraid you are correct. !!!!!!!!!!
Two things that will get your camera zapped. Dropping it on a hard concrete surface. And dropping it in water, such as a pool, spring, or shallow river. I've heard them all since being on this forum. I saw someone accidentally drop a Nikon D810 in a pool. Someone in a prior thread suggested a strap would help.
Mine fell out of my tri pod connection. My fault. I always have a strap on it and now I wrap it around the tripod when I mount it on there
