I purchased a new d810 for $400 less than a refurbished one but was treated with respect and the salesperson was very knowledgeable. Based on my experience, I would highly recommend them. There was no bait and switch

But was the camera a grey market product. If not you are fortunate. Abe's of Maine has a pretty dismal reputation here on UHH and for good reason of offering USA warranted products but sending grey market instead. It happened to me with a Nikon flash unit years ago. I would never do business with them. There is a reason they can sell it for $400.00 less than other places. Good luck and I hope I am wrong and that you got one hell of a deal.

At $700 below retail, do you have to ask?

No, I don't have to ask but I don't believe in calling the OP an idiot either. There are times when I can at least try to be pleasant. Quite possibly he is someone new to photography or at least has no idea what a grey market product is.

Of course if it is a grey market camera and needs repairs, you may be SOL. Lots of places will sell grey market without making it clear and it appears you get a super deal - until you find that there is no MFG warranty, and in fact, even if you are willing to pay for a repair no Nikon repair facility will touch it or provide parts for it.

Know for sure you have a warranty from Nikon.

Have had the same experience as yourself --- 2009 Purchased a 5D Mkii for $500.00 less then the list price & November 2016 purchased a 5DS for $500.00 under the current list price -- Both cameras have the full Canon USA warranty

Did you register the 5Ds you bought in 2016 on Canon's site? In 2009 Abe's was still an authorized Canon dealer. That is no longer the case. So, I wonder if Canon will recognize and accept the warranty for your newer body since the warranty implies purchase from an authorized dealer.

In both cases 2009 & 2016 the paper work that came with the cameras stated that they were under a USA Warranty -- In both cases about as soon as I got them out of their boxes I rushed to the PC & Registered via the Canon on-line site using their serial numbers -- In both cases Canon responded thanking me for my registration -- In addition after I registered the 2016 - 5DS purchase Canon then notified me that at least for the next 12 months the Camera was now covered under their Accident Protection Program ---- I fully realize that Abe's has a lot of bad press & probably some of it could be considered well deserved - However - Solely based on my experience I would & will use them in the future --- The key I think with these guys is: "Don't make any assumptions" -- Fully realize your not dealing with say a B&H --- Call them & question them in great detail as to exactly what it is & is not that they are shipping to you ---- Plus never use real money -- always use a Credit Card so that if there is a bad outcome or better an outcome you did not fully expect you can always dispute/remove the charge while returning the item

The biggest clues is what's the first 3 numbers of the serial number of the camera?

Online or in person? Either way, it's good to know you were treated fairly and posted that here.

Wow!

Here's a D810 at over $1,200 below other sellers, but this one is obviously gray market.
