My post a day or two back showed the beginnings of this composite (its here if you're interested: www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-454649-1.html ).
This is what I was after making and is a mock-up for a night shot I am hoping to do with another bike - preferably under a street lamp. Its supposed to encourage the second biker to pose for me with his exotic piece of machinery. Wont know if it all works until later in the summer when, hopefully, things will come together.
Meanwhile, how do you like the result and do you have any suggestions for improvement please? Its uploaded looking rather dull - downloading improves. Also acquired those strange lines to the background on conversion to jpeg!

an amazing transformation in my book! I love how it is grounded in the darkness. Having seen what you started with I am completely amazed.

Your vision was awesome, Dave! Love the light and dark, and as Piet mentions, the "grounding." I think that is a key point of many composites, helping to keep them from looking cut out. Hope others who do this often will expand on that idea with more discussion and info.

I knew the next step would be great fun! Well done with a dark view! Doesn't look dull at all. Very nicely done.

I'd be tempted to go further but I'd probably wreck it - adding more texture to the background, or maybe a streetlight...(I never know when to quit).

Good work!

Thanks Min. I did think about putting a lamppost in, but that's for the next one!

Thanks Linda - Aaron Nace has a video showing how to add shadow the pro way, not that Idid that here!

Me too! I'm fascinated by what you accomplished with the PP.

Being a motorcycle guy, I have shot lots of motor art. I have to say this image is technically excellent. Far better than anything I have done. It is pure beauty.

But my right brain feels a little puzzled. Why is the rider looking at his own bike? Well we all do now and then, maybe that's it? But IMHO it might be a stronger composition if the rider was looking toward the camera, with the reflection of the bike in his sunglasses.

Glad you like it Islandgirl - I love playing in pp but, really, it would be better to have set-off with this result in mind. That's not always possible, so pp comes to the rescue - the drawback being it's a compromise that lacks some of the technical detail, but that may not matter!

He was probably discussing his machine, as groups of bikers do when they meet-up JD, but I'm sure there are some shots with him looking at me - not so sure about the reflection though!. Thanks for that idea, something to try next time.
Think I've got some mixed image quality - by the look of the background it's probably a jpeg, hence the banding in pp.
Many thanks for your kind comments, much appreciated.

Dave, an outstanding start to finish !!! Although, I'm not sure your finished. It sounds as though you may be adding other elements, such as a street light? Excellent choice, IMO !!! You did an excellent job on the detail work with the clutter at the rear wheel and cleanup between the spokes of the wheels. That, to me, is a difficult task. By darkening the wheel, feet area was a way to avoid shadow placement, witch as you know is a task all on its own. If this is not the finished version, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
Dave

Thanks Dave. This was intended as a sort of practice image for something else but, with the suggestions and comments received, maybe I will take it further.
Cluttered backgrounds are time consuming to deal with, as I'm sure you know, and a couple of times I lost bits of bike en route! I then had to go back and add them in as separate cut-outs. Having finished, I suddenly wondered if I'd chopped the left hand (camera right) handlebar off. Going back to the original confirmed it wasn't showing, thank goodness!
If I do any more with it, I'll post the result.

Terrific transformation. I like that the riders face is bright as if he had is own highlight flash or lamp focused on his face. In addition, the light on the bike having it fade ever so slightly into the background. The colors are not overdone. Just a wonderful presentation
