Had been looking for a used P&S for a while to replace my Sony DSC-W5 that has a broken battery door. Tried a Canon A1400 but within a day it developed lens constipation so it went back. Found a Nikon P60 on ebay for $39 that was listed as like new. Paid $50 OTD. Received it recently and it looks like a keeper. As it turns out it came in a box showing it had been refurbished by Cameta Camera, with the original Cameta receipt and all manuals, software, cables and 512mb SD card. It looks to be in almost new condition. LCD is perfect as is the EVF Viewfinder(no diopter ). A viewfinder, AA Batteries and very impressive specs for a pocket-able camera. Based on some of the photo samples I've found on-line it looks very capable in the right hands. Nothing blooming here yet so sample photos are all I could manage so far. Notice the clarity of the dust particles!

Still digesting the manual but so far I'm ecstatic! Shout out to Nymphadora for recommending this camera in a recent thread!

You gave a lot of data on your older model camera. It has been awhile since I've seen a 512 megabytes memory card. You can buy 128gb cards now. You joined 5 days ago. Welcome to the forum..Your photos are nice too.

I have a class 10 32gb card at the ready. The camera is a little slow after pressing the shutter. Hopefully the faster card will improve the lag time somewhat. Thanks for looking.

You have a very good fast SD card now. You will get lots of photos on it. I never go past 32gb on a SD card. Keep on shooting good photos like you posted. Good luck to you.

As you mentioned, your P60 has a viewfinder. Nowadays, very few budget pocket cameras come with a viewfinder, which I think is really sad. Viewfinder is the main reason I decided to go for the Canon A1400 two years ago to serve as my carry everywhere pocket camera. However, unlike your A1400, mine continues to work just fine, and I do use it a great deal. Perhaps yours was simply a lemon.

Personally, I think any card above 8gb capacity for a 8 megapixel camera is overkill and ultimately a waste of money. The files are relatively small and it would take ages to fill the card up. (8gb card will hold roughly 4000 images; perhaps more depending on the jpg compression.) The exception of course is if you shoot videos quite often - then a large capacity card may make more sense.

The Canon A1400 was literally received from an eBay seller one day and failed the next so I returned it. The camera looked like it was in good condition but was very dirty in all the nooks and crannies. As for the size of the SD card I figure for the $3 price difference I'll be a sport. And I always buy Class 10 cards.

I used a P60 for backup and it is a great, underrated camera. I also bought a broken screen P60 on ebay, bought a new screen, and had a great camera for $20 or so. I gave it to my husband. They also do video. Nyms

Yes. I read your recent post suggesting this camera. You were very enthusiastic about it so I immediately researched it and found some very good sample photos. When I saw it on eBay for that price how could I not give it a go? It is in excellent condition and I'm looking forward to using it for family occasions. Thank you again for the suggestion.

I had a Sony DSC-W5, It was a nice little unit with an optical finder and manual controls, It felt like a "REAL" camera for a pocket P&S. It's somewhat thick and square body also lent to the "real" camera feel. I actually wished I kept it. My current Samsung ST201 P&S lacks a veiwfinder AND manual controls. Good luck with you new Nikon. Regardless of what ever other gear you have, a grab and go pocket P&S will let you get many photos that otherwise would be missed, and still have more options than a phone camera.

Hello, Ralph....I'm glad you like it. It really IS an underrated camera. They weren't made, I don't think, for very long, and they are rare even on ebay. When I bought my first one new, it was marked down to $99.95 at Office Depot. One nice thing is that outdoors it has an actual viewfinder...one that works in the sun. And it does pretty good video as well. As I said in my earlier post, I shot an Eric Clapton/Stevie Winwood concert with it, leaving all my other Nikons home. We were centre stage, second row, and in some of the shots I could read his watch. Really cool camera. Nyms
