This is a photo taken with a Canon 400D and a Canon 18-55mm Lens @ f/13 ISO 400 and speed 1/400. It is obviously not a Macro photo, but this is what sparked my interest in Macro photography. The Monpani worm / moth is found in Southern Africa. The worm is a source of protein for the indigenous people.

Interesting caterpillar. I guess as food it is all what you are used to eating. Do they cook them first?

I agree, it is an interesting caterpillar. The local custom is to call it a worm rather than a caterpillar. the worms are boiled in salted water and dried in the sun, after which point they have been said to keep indefinitely. The dried product is also exported to Paris and Brussels - possibly to satisfy the appetites of emigrant Africans in those cities.

Good interesting shot. I couldn't eat one myself though.

I would give it a try after it was boiled and dried. I would think it wouldn't look anything like it's former self.

Hi Shaka, That first photo is very sharp and colourful. The caterpillar/worm looks almost like a Koori (Aboriginal painting) with warm earth tones and dots.

I wouldn't like to eat this one even dried, but I have eaten some unexpected foods in Indonesia. In Manado (Indonesia) they have a joke that they eat everything on 4 legs except the table.

Hi Pamela, I agree it certainly has warm earthy tones. It is a very colourful and beautiful caterpillar. Thank you for looking.
