Need some help please, don't know what happened here, this is not what it looked like at the time the photo was taken. The reds are way to soft.

Looking at the EXIF data, you had everything set about as good as you could have. Look at the small red dots in the picture. They show horizontal blur. I'm thinking you had some camera shake making everything slightly soft.

By "soft" I assume you're referring to the colour rather than the texture? In the first I just upped the contrast. In the second I tint-shifted orange towards yellow a bit and increased its saturation.

There's a fair amount of noise in the image that I'd want to get rid of if I took the edit any further. With skies I prefer to err on the side of softness. And I'd probably crop out a fair bit of the dark area along the bottom.

Apparently most cameras struggle with strong reds.

One possibility is the normal program selected for your captures was changed just before this photo was captured. Post processing can correct this effect after the fact. Look at you camera controls to see if the camera had changed from 'Normal' to 'Portrait'.

Additionally, always be aware of your horizon. This one seems a bit tilted downward to the left.
