Posed indoor shots. I still get confused with lighting, and have difficulty getting the final shot to be sharp. Still gets fuzzy, as if the rangefinder is off. Perhaps a better lens? Canon Rebel XTi with EFS 18-55 lens.

if your lighting is good, then you may have a problem with the lens not focusing where it should, either in front of or behind the focal point..or it could be just that the kit lens is just not sharp enough to do what you want..that is what I found to be true for me..
What is your shutter speed?
Try taking a photo in live view mode. There are no focusing errors with live view mode. The camera is using it contrast detection autofocus in live view mode. It adjusts the focus until is achieves the highest contrast at the sensor. The camera uses phase detection autofocus when using the viewfinder. Phase detection autofocus is error prone.
Post one of your photos so we can see what's going on. Check the "store original" box so the metadata can be seen.

These recent resurrections of decades-old topics seem to indicate there are more people who go (or attempt to go) directly to the first page of main discussion forum than use the "newest topics" feature located at the top of every UHH page.
The general chit-chat users seem to prefer the emailed digest. I'm not trying to form any meaningful conclusions from this observation, however.
