A really great buy on photo quality chips

I just came across a great buy on Ebay: Class 6 8Gig Samsung micro chips priced at $3.95 ea. and shipping is free. They are shock and water resistant. You will need a SD adapter for most cameras but they are easy to come by.

That sounds cheap, but is class 6 fast enough? I used class 6 with my Sony A230, and it wasn't fast enough - an occasional blank frame would slip through.

I am now using a SanDisk class 10 16GB card, which is rated at 45Mbs. This is fast enough even for video from my A580.

Really good price, but I don't like the micros because they're so small. And I don't like using adaptors. Samsung is a good brand.

Many, many issues here.

1) that price.... I would be careful that it isn't a counterfeit chip. RE: http://www.digicamhelp.com/accessories/memory-cards/fake-memory-cards/

2) Where are the ebay chips shipping from? If Hong Kong, see 1) above. If stateside, check to see the complaints against the seller or his products.

3) As stated elsewhere in this thread, Micro chips require an adapter. Does that come with the chip or must you purchase it separately? If separately, your cost for that first chip will increase because of additional purchase, shipping, etc.

4) A Class 6 card is slow. You should consider a Class 10, especially if you are going to do any short film shooting (movies) with it. Class 6 just does not cut the mustard on movies.

5) Don't be penny wise and pound fullish....

Then take a look at Target Stores. Two days ago they had 16Gb - Class 10 chips available for $19.95 each.

I bought one and it improved my Canon Rebel ti1 by 75%. Downloading into PC is much faster as well.

It really makes a difference when trying to take sequential images at 4fps.

I use 32gb class 6 cards and they are fast enough. One is from Promaster and the other two are Kingston. At the time I bought them, they recorded faster than class 10 crds. The suggestion is to consider the manufacture and how the card is designed. Cheap usually means poor quality and should be avoided.

I had many cheap cards go bad. I started purchasing Lexar cards and never had and issue. Imagine taking 200 pictures at an event and the card going bad. Not worth buying cheap
