Canon A1400 vs Canon SX160

Looking for some advice. I ordered the A1400 used in VG condition for $60 based on some posts and pics I've seen here on this site. It was to replace a P&S Sony DSC-W5 that still works but has a battery door issue that doesn't pay to fix plus I want to get away from Sony's memory cards. Anyway when the camera arrived today I opened the box and received a Canon SX160. If the vendor offers to let me keep it in place of the A1400 should I keep it? It looks like it is in excellent condition and the reviews seem good. The specs are similar except that the SX160 has 5x the optical zoom range of the A1400. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Personally I think you got the better deal -

Snapsort rates the SX160 as the winner in direct comparison to the A1400: http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-PowerShot-A1400-vs-Canon-PowerShot-SX160-IS

And I found this tech comparison:

I just notice that the SX160 has no viewfinder. I've noticed as I get older my photos are better when using the viewfinder and they are becoming scarce in P&S cameras. Still waiting to hear from the vendor. Thanks for the input.

Just heard back from the vendor and they made a mistake. They are sending then A1400 on Monday. I already have a bridge camera(25x zoom) so the SX160 will be returned. Oh well.

Thank you Jerry. I am looking at the links right now but since I'm getting the A1400 and returning the SX160 I will be little biased.

Then maybe you shouldn't look at the links.

The A1400 looks like a good piece of equipment.

I have the A1400 and what I like about it is the fact that it has a viewfinder (which the SX160 lacks), it is small enough to fit in any coat pocket, and it does not weigh much at all. I always have it with me wherever I go, even on a short walk to the corner store; a larger, heavier camera would probably stay at home. As long as you don't use much flash, the AA battery will last a long time; I usually get 2-3 months from the battery before I need to replace it. Sometimes the 5X zoom feels a bit limiting, but that's the inevitable trade-off for small and light weight.

You're too late I already looked.

It has a pretty fast lens at F2.8 with the viewfinder and some people have said it focuses fairly well so for $60 buck I'll take chance. maybe it will be a collector's item one day. Probably not in my lifetime though!

Thank Jerry.

It would be nice to have 16x optical zoom in something as small as the SX160 but like I said the viewfinder is the big selling point for me. I am looking into an external flash. Possibly the HF-DC1 or 2. Young kids in the family and lots of indoor parties. It could come in handy. Thanks Rook.
