I am curious to know if anyone who bought the first generation of this lens has upgraded or is considering to upgrade to the G2. I read a review in either Outdoor Photography or Shutterbug that the G2's specs are just as good as the Sigma Sport model. Of course the G2 price is around $400.00 more than was the first version when it came out. Has anyone heard what a ball park trade in value/sale to a camera store (B&H, KEH, Adarama, etc.) could be? My lens is so mint it has never been used.

I bought a used G1 for $850 from Adorama. You can figure they will offer you about half that. The first version is pretty good, I have seen reports that the second is better but on what level I can't remember. The lens was for my wife and it's on a Canon T6i. She shot a hawk a good 100 ft away, through a double pane window, hand held at 600 and filled the frame and still got the glint in the bird's eye and the texture of it's feathers. Better than that should be pretty awesome.

Any chance of you posting that hawk shot. I've only been able to get one very good shot through a window and it was a single pane.

"Filled the frame" is testimony to my failing memory, we did crop it vertically and that is the picture I remembered, this is the original. Even with jpeg compression the detail is pretty darn good.

Thanks, that's a good shot and even more amazing that it was shot through double pane glass. I think I need to replace my windows. There's distortion in my glass, hand held 600mm, yes that's good.

If all I can get is about $425 or so, don't think I want the new model that bad. The trade/sell price would just cover the cost increase over the original model. So, would still be at least $1k more to invest. Nice Hawk photo, by the way👍.

I notice that there is no ability to download the photo, is that because I posted it in a reply?

I own one for the Nikon dslr and was disappointed with the results with it. It simply is nowhere near as clear as the lenses I use from nikon. I don't have the sigma but wish I'd bought it to try instead. It now sits in a box until I get around to selling it and my old cameras, d90, etc. on Ebay. Wasted the money. No matter how well I set up the lens just isn't as crisp as the cost would indicate.

If your lens has never been used (your quote) then why buy another you will not use?

I own the G2 version and I've downloaded some images. In most cases I was at least 50 feet and two I was over 100 feet away. These photos have been cropped. I used a Nikon D750. I believe all were shot at 600mm.

Those are very nice images. I used my then Nikon d7000 with mine then when I got the fx D4 tried again and still did not get the crispness that you got. Maybe I need to try again. I did get a few nice images but nothing as good as these. Nice work.

Thank you. Have you seen the Tamron Tap-in tool. It allows you to check for software updates to the lens and also to adjust the focus. I have not tried to adjust the focus; but it does have that capability.
