Do you shoot silhouettes?

I took this whilst people were waiting for the Studland starling murmuration to commence. Silhouettes were popular long before the camera was invented and examples in cut-outs, miniature paintings and needlework are fairly commonplace. I've always liked snapping them. If you have a silhouette to share, please add it, I'd love see more.

You betcha, I love them! Yours works great, Dave, not just because of the eye-catching color, but you have really nice separation of the figures with fun details like the man's hat and all the grasses.

Here's one from last February. I posted to the "contrasy" b&w thread in pure b&w, but have added a couple of textures just now (quickly, lol) to see how would look.

The fun thing about this shot is this is an osprey nest that a great blue heron has borrowed as its winter lookout. Once the ospreys return in spring, there will be no sharing

I'm so glad you started this topic!

Super silhouette Linda, what a great shot! I've not thought of adding filters to them, but yours works very nicely, compliments the subject perfectly. Thanks for adding to the thread.

Like the detail in this islandgal. A bit scary too! Thanks for joining in.

Texture and vibrant colour also produce beautiful silhouettes!

A willing subject against setting moon (just before sunrise). With my bridge camera a couple of summers ago.

That's a very nice shot Linda - like the touch with the feather as well! It would however move further up my yummy scale if the moon was in focus as well as the foreground elements - picky or what!?

I like them and I particularly like this. It's a simple story well told and the yellowing sky makes a big difference. Don't get those at OTMOOR where I go to try and see a murmuration. Just cold winds!
But I also like ones with lots of detail in, a naked tree for example - so look as it's crystal sharp.

While I love silhouettes, I don't recall having any of my own. The opportunity has never come for me as I can think of. I will have to search, but don't think I will find any that are acceptable or they would have been posted by now. As far as the one you posted, its an excellent image Dave. I know your into B&W such as I am, but the color in this one is outstanding. Love it, nice work.

I don't have any that begin to compare with the others gone before, but it's the best I can come up with.

The feather was fun to discover once I downloaded to computer. Interesting about the moon. I wouldn't have been able to get with this particular shot because I had to zoom in for the bird. If you have time, and a moon handy, maybe you could composite it? I'm curious now

I have always enjoyed silhouettes. Thank you for the subject. Here are just a couple. I know the light is blown out in the 2nd one but the shadows have always just appealed to me and of course winter trees are always good. Probably needs a moon or bigger bird somewhere. Oh well, someday....
