I ran across this photo on the web and thought it was really good but there was no label as to who shot it. I downloaded it and brought up the metadata and nothing but image #. My question is why would anyone take this good a photo and post it on the web without labeling with their copywright and name.

You might provide some context, such as where it was posted and the circumstances as you know them. Maybe provide a link.

One, many sites strip the data (UHH does when creating the view)

Two, if one does not care, why question it?

Three, why being concerned about what other do?

.

Wrong section to post this image.

Next time you bitch about other people, remember the above. You really are a stupid idiot. Who do you think you are that allows you to post a reply like this? This isn't your forum, you are just a guess like everyone else. The OP has every right to post what ever he or she feels like.

Go come up with an original idea and POST 1 picture that isn't junk.

What a looser.

It was on Cruising Outpost. I only downloaded it to post on this website for my question. Do all of you post pictures on the web without security precautions to protect your images.

Remember, material found on the Internet has the same copyright protection as material distributed through other media. Exceptions include materials found in the public domain, which can be used without permission, refer to any material published before 1923 or 70 years after the creator's death.

You don't need to label it. Without registering a copyright I don't believe you can gain monetarily from someone who uses your picture. But the owner of the picture you posted could request it be taken down if they could verify ownership.

There was a story widely circulated a while ago (not sure if it was true) that the White House website had an animated gif of the American flag that they took off the internet. The creator had them remove it.

The internet has left a lot up in the air.

Ron, as you can see from THIS image, most if not all of ours are no better than snapshots. Who would want them? There are billions of snaps circling the web. I'd feel lucky, if someone would actually ran into any of my unartistic photos.

Any picture on the web can be stolen with or without the exif info and even watermarks can be stripped out by those who know how to do it. If youre concerned about your images being stolen the best way to post is to use low-res versions but I reckon even those can be used by someone really knowledgable.

Perhaps that person works in a zoo or is a professional bird trainer and has captured tons of close-up photos like this over the years.

Perhaps he is a long distance truck driving serial killer who picks his victims from the ones who download his pictures.
