This forum has had many recent requests for the quality (etc) of the Nikon 200-500 lens. Here is a RAW photo taken with my D7100, Nikon 200-500 lens with 1.4 extender (i.e. 1050mm) at a distance of 150' in a Norfolk Pine tree. Absolutely no processing except first photo has been cropped to 100% plus or minus. Attached is the JPEG version.

I was so pleased with mine on the D7100 that I added a D500 for good measure! Fine job!

No question about it's sharpness. I have one and love it.Photographed Eagles with it also at Lock and Dam 14 in Leclaire Iowa with my D800. I was concerned about losing quality with the 1.4 tele extender but your images are super sharp. I will have to rethink that situation

I forgot to mention this photo was taken hand held. At 81, I had to set camera at 1/2500, f8, ISO 500, Image stabilization on, taken at mid day.

As I have said before .. I have a mint 7100 .. and a D810 ..., I have used my 200-500 on both .. no comparison ... borrow a D810 and put on the 200-500 ... now you can see how good that lens really is ,,..

I am very new to this site. I am wondering about the Nikon 200-500 compared to the new Nikon 80-400. The extra focal length would be nice but will I lose sharpness. I may have to go with the 80-400. Any help always appreciated
