I am looking for new camera. Mine is a Nikon D40. I am on a very tight budget.

I can well understand the desire for a new camera, but I'm curious what the D40 will not do for you?

My wife has one and I think it has the best JPG engine of any of the amateur class Nikons made. She knows nothing about photography, but her stuff straight out of the camera is very good - saturated, contrasty and well exposed.

Not trying to talk you out of a new cam, but just curious.

I have owned and used the D90 for over 3 years. Would like a D7000 or a D800 or a D4! BUT, I am very happy with the pictures from the D90. Have taken sports, weddings and phesant hunts and family pictures and everyone in my family and friends are impressed with the pictures. I'm sure professionals would turn their noses up at this camera, but since you are on a tight budget, a D90 with the right lenses and flash would do you just fine. Good luck!

Has the same sensor as the Nikon D300s! The D7000 is better at higher iso ( lower light). If that's not an issue The differences are less.
