that tree has to be older than sin, did you check the branches for a snake?

I love to photograph trees in the winter when you can see all of the skeletal workings of the branches. I spent a long time looking at this wonderful scene in download and it put me right there examining the nuances of that amazing structure. As pertains to the discussion about sharpness. I'm glad you chose to make this one sharp. It would probably also look good with more of a painterly feel; but, as I said, I had a great time marveling at the intricacies of the trees branch system and sharpness helped. Good post.

I really like this. Is the tree really in the middle of the river, or is the river out of its banks? Whichever, it's nice.

It's on the edge of the River Ouse Washes, it's an area that is allowed flood during the winter when the two rivers either side cannot carry away the water quickly enough. The wash is about 21 miles long by three-quarters mile wide.

The first picture shows the wash flooded during winter and the second during the summer when it is very rich grazing land. They are taken from roughly the same spot. In my picture of the willow tree the water level is surprisingly low for this time of year.

It would be a lovely foggy morning subject with soft pastel colours. Sharp or soft, both would be equally valid.
