canon 1d series

Just got the Sony 77II...the FPS is truly astounding....Anybody who has Nikon and Canon and still has not at least one Sony mid range machine in the bag is missing out....This should not be an argument of one brand over the other but what can fill in the gaps that Nikon and Canon have not covered....

Looking for advice on a canon full frame. I shoot landscapes and grandkids mostly. There are so many different ones out there. Any help is greatly appreciated. I have Sony A7711 now.

The OP was asking for advice about full frame cameras...why posting any images at all? She knows what she wants...what is with this compulsion of whoring off images which add NOTHING to the OP request? Besides those images could have been taken with a cellphone and dont show any special characteristic regarding the 6D.

Wow! I pity anyone who has to live with you.

You have a point, more or less. From the Rules (Photo Gallery)

"- Do not hijack topics by posting your pictures inside someone else's topic in a manner that would divert the discussion away from the original poster's pictures. In such situation, it's best to start a new topic and post your pictures there. It is OK to post pictures when explicitly invited by the OP or when posting pictures inside an existing topic would genuinely benefit that particular discussion."

As I said, "more or less."

Based on what you shoot, you might consider a Canon 6D. I have both the 7D II and 6D. I use the 7DII (Crop Frame) for moving subjects, like sports, birds in flight, etc., but find the 6D (Full Frame) is more than adequate for people, architecture, landscape. It does not have a super-duper auto focus, but that's not really an issue for the kinds of things you listed. Also, the 6D is very good in low light and can be had (if in stock) as a Canon refurbished (in their refurb store) for around $1099. Are there "better" Canon full frames? Yes, but for what you are shooting, the 6D is an exceptional camera at a relatively reasonable price.

Wow, my avatar was shot with a 1D Mk III if that helps...
Canon makes a handful of FF cameras. Price and features will be important in deciding which if any is right for the OP. The range is wide.

Santa must not have brought you any presents and now you are mad at the world. Get over it. If you don't have anything constructive to add, then just keep your mouth shut.

My two cents worth, the 6D with the 24-105 can't be beat.

Robertjerl and I seem to share many years of teaching, many of those before "teaching moments" became part of the vocabulary. I have since come to believe those "teaching moments" had a lot to do with the nature of the student - - what was stimulating to some was boring to others. My daughter was in one of my classes and came to my office after what I thought was a well done presentation to her class and she informed me "Dad, that was BORING" ! you win some and lose some.

I too use the 6D and 7DII. The 6D is great for the money and still one of the better Canons for dim light. I even have done Birds In Flight with it using the tricks from the days before AutoFocus. There is supposed to be a 6DII coming out in 2017. Rumor has it having a 24 mega pixel sensor (present one has 20 mp) and an improved AF. But it will be $1999 according to the rumors.

Body only is about $1500, with the 24-105L f/4 lens it is $2099 from B&H, no tax if you are out of NY. I paid 2199 + tax and shipping in Nove 2013.

But that is a great combination. I have gone all day at a Civil War Reenactment and a Steam Punk festival with only the body and that lens. In a well lit room you can get by without flash off a tripod or if you can hold very steady but a small flash makes it much better.

Attached three pictures: 1) indoors by light of Christmas tree and ceiling light 20 feet behind me, exposure increased a bit in processing, no other processing done yet 2) with small flash cropped only 3) outdoors No processing or cropping done.
#1 and #2 are with the 24-105L f/4 lens, #3 with the 70-300 mm lens.

Actually if I had the money I would replace the 6D with the 5DIV and keep the 6D for backup, maybe get my wife to use it instead of her SX50 bridge camera.

As a collector of firearms I appreciate your photos, especially the last one showing the rifle at a reenactment. What is interesting to me is the somewhat rare Maynard tape priming system. For those not familiar with 1860's firearms, they generally used a percussion cap to ignite the main charge. A percussion cap is seen on the pictured rifle. But another system was in use as well. There is a door beneath the hammer that when opened would allow a strip of what we called, caps, to be used with toy pistols. This strip allowed the rifle to be fired without applying a percussion cap for every shot. The time savings in battle could be worthwhile. I also appreciated the sharpness of the photograph which revealed the rifle as a U.S. Springfield made at the Springfield Armory; most likely a Model of 1855.

Of course I do, but the bandwagon of the dementia ward love, just love, to take the rules of the site and bend them to the liking. Those images do not provide any insight into the real strong points of the 6D and come as a just a chance to get that positive reinforcement that many here desperately seek. The sad part is that after all is come and gone, a chance to really highlight the benefits of full frame and the 6D sensor qualities becomes lost. The "praisers" will loose the chance to learn and their mediocrity both in technique, basics and gear knowledge, will prevail. A quick look into the images posted by these "praisers" will, rapidly, prove my point.

It's jerks like you that make me want to unsubscribe to this site. Some of us enjoy seeing other people's pictures. If it bothers you so much don't read it.

Yes because saying that the 6D and 24-105 lens combo cant be beat has brought a whole new dimension of knowledge to this thread. Guess I should open my mouth only to rub others back and provide praise. Is that it?
