I've resisted posting autumn colour shots until now, but here are three more subdued efforts for your critique.

All are well composed images, Dave !!! However, my favorite of the three is #2, and feel it would work as a B&W also. I like #3 as well, but not as much as #2. Well done !!!

Good idea Dave, I'll try that as a b&w. I like that shot too, we'd acknowledged each other as she passed, without speaking. She knew I'd take the shot and I knew she turn to make sure - worked very nicely! Unfortunately it's a heavy crop.

I like #1 and the words Autumn and B&W some how remind me of mixing Oil and Water.

Thanks RedArrow, see your point but I think the emphasis would move away from autumn and focus on the walker.

I like all three. The first has a quiet mysterious feel for me - kind of a secret place to enjoy. The second is very inviting. I like that the lady is glancing back at you. The third has the lovely mist lightly veiling the colors of fall. There are really exceptional.

Thanks Cw. That was how we felt when we first walked that stretch in no1. It's a peaceful spot along the River Teign in Devon (as is no3).

Love all of these, Dave! The lush greenery of #1, with just a hint that autumn is on the way, the fun over-the-shoulder look of the walker and the trotting dog - perfectly positioned under the canopy of some pretty cool-looking trees; and #3 - great feeling of depth and sense of the moment, again just a hint that autumn was upon you, super mood with the fog, additional element of interest with the sign post.

I hope you'll post a b&w of #2. It will be a completely different story and will be fun to compare.

You have the timing right Linda, 1 is taken a month earlier than 3, which saw full autumn colours. If I posted some that I took at that time the consensus of opinion would probably be 'overdone'. It's several years since things were so colourful, at least in the South.

I will try the b&w of 2 tomorrow. Thanks for the evaluation, much appreciated.

Thanks Billy, I'm fairly sure these are not your favourite type of photo, so appreciate your honest opinion.

Which brings up that point we've touched on in several topics: what do we do with an image that doesn't appear realistic to those who have never seen that particular color, weather, light, subject etc. Living in Maine, I remember some autumns where the color was so vibrant, it would take your breath away!

Dave,
Each of these of these is a beautifully constructed image...but number one is a precious gem without price!
the tonal relationships are incredibly refined and stated..not over stated...not understated...it is as a stream flowing into the Enchanted Garden.

And yes, Dave, they all worked incredibly well for...well..you know...

Dave

Well, I suppose all we can do is give an honest rendition Linda. I've certainly struggled, and ended up toning them down a touch, making them 'imagined reality' but something I like and others will hopefully accept. I think it's a good choice for me as the really vibrant colours can get tiresome to look at all year!!
