When I make the image full size (whole screen), the mouse indicator turns into a magnifying glass. Move it s-l-o-w-l-y across the screen to the right. Don't press on it....just move it. Then you should see the EXIF data (all the way on the right----by the edge of the screen). Good luck!

Success!! I wasn't going far enough to the right. It works great thanks for the tip. Obviously you know the program better than me. Thanks

Jeffrey Friedl

He writes software, some of which has to do with photography. He has a lot of Lightroom plugins.

I use PIE, or Picture Information Extractor-it displays seems to display everything you could ever want to view.

From looking around at everyone's suggestions it seems there is not really a good match for Jeffrey's EXIF reader. It is web based and will list the EXIF information on an online photo that has not been stripped of the data. I do not want to have to download a picture onto my computer to view the data and it looks like most of you do that. I guess I am lazy. When I look at your pictures online, with Jeffrey's EXIF reader, all I have to do is right click to find the information if it is still intact and not stripped off.
Thanks all for your help!

I hadn't come across this before. I tried it out and it does return a fair amount of information, including the camera serial number. The shutter count (which seems to be the thing people look for most [based on comments in postings]) is listed on the XMP tab, where it is called "image number".

I get the impression (based on my aging memory) that Jeffrey's viewer returned more information but since it's off line I can't directly compare them.

If EXIF is available, almost any Windows folder, right click the image, scroll down to "Properties", click details. In FastStone, right click the image, scroll down to "File Properties", then details. It works unless someone has intentionally removed the EXIF.

That gives you some things from the EXIF file but it does not include the shutter count. There is a space labelled "serial number" but it was empty. On the same photo, PIE shows both those values.

No, it does not. Canon EXIF does not include shutter count as Nikon does. Wish it did.
Thanks,
Mark

Sorry, I didn't realize.
Never shot a Canon.
Condolances.

I don't think very much about shutter count unless I am buying used or selling.
There are quite a few ways to find it when I need that.
