for months. Moving from a casual to more serious attitude about my photography. Learning so much from many of you. Practicing, improving my equipment. I moved last year from G9 to a 7D with an 18-135 kit lens. I'm doing pp in LR3. Here are a few photos from a trip to Mongolia with that lens. I probably shot 20-30 exposures at various settings for the sunrise. I was very disappointed in the softness. I felt I had gotten better shots with my G9. I had an inexpensive UV filter which I believe contributed to the softness. I would appreciate your comments.

Great shots and I would agree with you in thinking that any softness would be attributable to the filter rather than the lens, I pretty much quit using filters altogether because of that!

Thanks Rich. I've since obtained a 70-200 L II and can hardly bring myself to use the kit lens again. But I do believe it can do well without the filter or with a high quality one.

:-D #1 Horses Subject - Crop to tail of left set eleminating left horse it is to seperate and distracting - Crop right to 3rd revine, eleminate sky and distant mts.
#2 Less neg space. But very catching :P
#3 Less sky ,less carrol and intensify smoke, and color.
Agree softness filter caused. I use a polizerier - Grad ND set and ND set rest can be achieved in PP.+
Welcome to UHH we all learn from all.

I always look for pictures within the picture. Cropping can turn a single picture into a series of photos. I, personally, would like to see more pictures of the ger as I am thinking about making one as a summer house.

Don't think a ger would be a good choice for a summer home. Really intended to keep out the cold. I was served lunch inside, but had to step out it was so stuffy despite freezing temp outside.
