All 3 pictures taken on the Afalfi Coast of Italy. One of the most beautiful areas in the country. The town shown is Positano.

lovely pics, by the way. thnx for the exif. just wondering if f11 would have sharpened the village more(really depends on lens). i understand, you enhanced the pic, gave it a sense of dimension or pov, by including the handrail.

Thanks ,Cellaga. I took a shot at f/11 for the dept of field but liked the effect of the 'pop' of the flowers with a softer back ground better.

There is an attempt in landscape photography to include too much and when that happens, balance in composition fails. The top one suffers from all that. The good thing is with a little help in post processing, this can be a very nice image with great color. The second on misses on two counts. You left off the top of the mountain and you included a bus on the right. You can fix the bus not the mountain. The fix is to crop (boy, I'm beginning to hate that word) so that you include the fence, flowers and some of the mountain. The third one just needs some brightening and do get rid of that partial boat and person in the bottom right. That's a great shot even though I'd have liked to cut down all that greenery first ~smile~.

Too bad I still can't tell left from right. The boat and person needing to be eliminated are in the bottom left.

Thanks to all! I think you are all spot on w/ your critiques. These were shot a couple of years ago, and while I tried to pay attention to composition I was looking thru a view finder(about 75% of view recorded). But ,w/o question, my primary problem was that I had not had the benefit of your suggestions! I hope I would not make those composion errors again after having the benefit of your help for the last few weeks!

I'm beginning to think that composition is very difficult for some people (this is not aimed at you) and for others it just comes naturally. Anyone can learn a few guidelines but to be able to look at a scene and know instinctively how is should be captured is a gift. I think you have this gift and now just need to be more aware. Like anything, it takes practice.
