I borrowed the new Nikon 105mm 1.4 lens so I could play around with shooting portraits. I usually shoot with my 70-200mm wide open at 2.8. Shooting with the 105 wide open at 1.4 got me this result. I like the narrow DOF.

OK, that looks pretty good.... all the way around. I may have to re-think this 1.4 business....

Thanks for being the trailbreaker...

While I'm impressed with the acuity on the right eyelashes having the tip of the nose out of focus could be a major distraction for most clients... Also the fact that the right iris is in focus while the left iris isn't doesn't work for me either... What did your client think?

Food for thought.... I've not seen that narrow of DOF used for portraiture in major large circulation publications... believe it's just a tad extreme in my humble estimation... Albeit the bottom line is if the client is pleased, nothing else is of merit... at least for those who shoot commercially...

Cute that you can clearly see the light modifier in the right pupil/iris interface... lol

Believe if this glass is stopped down a tad move it may work for portraiture... but I'm not a fan of 1.4

Thank you for sharing...

Nice--not too sure about the crop, though. It looks unbalanced to me.

I really like it. The softness of the face emphasizes the sharpness of the eyes.

It appears to be a nice lens. However, I'll stick with my f2.5.

Gorgeous shot AND gorgeous eyes. I like the off balance composition. It reads really well in my opinion. Beautifully done.

I think the DOF here is too shallow. It looks like his lips and mustache are the only things in focus. ...as always, there is a high possibility that i'm wrong.

I just wanted to show what the capabilities are with this new Nikon lens. Chances are it's not for you, but for a bridal portrait a must have.

Actually the fuzzy left ear bothers me. Don't like this.

I reckon the "crop" is superlative.

And I think I could get used to the lack of depth of field AltarMan.
