Some of you have asked to see more shots from my safari in Africa. I used a Nikon 300S. I mostly used the 70/200 lens and the 80/400 zoom. I appreciate your suggestions and/or critiques.

They are wonderful shot. Please, Please, Please take me on your next vacation. The only issue I see is focus. Mom elephant is in good focus but baby needs a little sharpening. If you have editing software you could isolate the baby and sharpen it a bit. Zebras need sharpening. Giraffe is a wonderful pose! I wonder if you isolated his head down to where the greenery starts if you could improve the focus a bit. That's what I would try with this one.

Thanks. I got that camera 1 month before I left and didn't know as much as I should have about it. But I like it. I'd like to try your suggestion but don't know how. I have a mac and use Iphoto for editing. I don't think I can edit in just a certain portion of a photo. Do you know?

It doesn't appear to me that you can do that with Iphoto. I am submitting to you an example of a simple fix on the baby elephant. All I did was isolate him from the rest of the photo. And I manually sharpened. There are other free editing programs and I imagine some of them work with Mac. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 9. It does an incredible number of things from basic-basic to extremely complex. Very easy to use. Even has auto settings you can choose from and my version 9 has guided editing where it helps you figure out what you should do. I think it does come for Mac. If you are interested, Amazon.com seems to have the best price on this (remember photoshop elements is not the same as photoshop.) I think they are selling it currently for $79 and the manufacturer has a $20 rebate but you would have to check on that since these offers are constantly changing. There are many good editing programs out there but PSE out sells all of the others.

Nice shots, I lived in South Africa about 20 years ago and some of the best scenes I remember were from there. I did not have a camera then, but the pictures are still in my mind.
Next time take several of us along with you. We'll be a great help I promise.

the mom and baby elephant would make a wonderfull mothers day card. I can feel the love in that photo. Im one of those lunny artsy feely type of photographers and all three of those photos express emotion so well. i would send the giraffe photo to a friend with the caption lets do lunch.

That is such a great idea! I second that. Make it a Mother's day card. and send out dinner invites on the giraffe.

Thanks so much for all that effort. The baby does look better. I'll check on that program today. I've heard that Elements is much easier and quite good but I wasn't aware it worked with a Mac. I Will find out though. As far as the vacation...of course. I think we should get a group together. It was the trip of a lifetime and I've travelled a good bit. I'm still going through my 4500 plus shots and love them more every day. It brings the trip back in a very real way. I'll send a few more later if I'm not sending too many.

Absolutely. What program did you use. Sometimes I can get more resolution and depth with my temp scale. I may have missed it on that one. thanks so much.
